On May 8, the Yellow Springs community will vote on a facilities plan developed through collaboration with staff, parents, and community members.
Following extensive community engagement in 2017, including multiple community meetings, building tours, and a scientific phone survey conducted by Wright State University's Applied Research Institute, the Board of Education voted in January to proceed with a facilities vote for the community favored plan.
If approved May 8, the issue would renovate and add to the existing Yellow Springs High School/McKinney Middle School campus, preserving the best parts of our heritage in that building and adding modern, updated learning spaces that would enhance the world-class education offered at Yellow Springs Schools. The cost of the project would be about $12.7 million.
The tax issue on the ballot is a combined 4.7-mill property tax and .25-percent income tax. The 37-year property portion would cost less than $14 a month, or about $165 annually, for the owner of a $100,000 home. The 30-year income tax would cost about $100 annually per $40,000 of income.  Community members in the phone survey and community meetings strongly supported a combined funding mechanism.
