Yellow Springs Tops Best High School Rankings in Region
Yellow Springs Schools’ commitment to whole-child education and supporting students in the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills earned Yellow Springs High School the top ranking in the Miami Valley on the 2016 U.S. News and World Report Annual Best High Schools Ranking.
Yellow Springs High School ranked 13th in the state of Ohio – higher than any other school in the region and in the top 1.5 percent of all Ohio high schools – and 391st, or in the top two percent, in the country on the annual rankings, based on a comprehensive rankings methodology. U.S. News and World Report says the rankings are based on the principles “that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show it is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.”
Yellow Springs Schools utilizes a highly-qualified and dedicated faculty to engage students in project-based learning, hands-on lessons designed to help students develop crucial real-world skills like collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving to answer a meaningful question or solve a problem. Students are excited about learning and given ownership of their education through the implementation of project-based learning.
"We are incredibly proud of the dedication of our students and staff to earn a place on the U.S. News and World Report Annual High School Rankings, as the top high school in the Miami Valley and 13th in the state of Ohio," said Yellow Springs Superintendent Mario Basora. "Through an emphasis on 21st Century Skills like problem-solving and creative thinking in our project-based learning environment, our students leave Yellow Springs High School ready for success and to make a difference in the world. At Yellow Springs, we don't spend time preparing for standardized testing, but instead focus on doing what's best for students, and our whole-child approach to education continues to pay off in outstanding educational outcomes."
This is Yellow Springs High School’s third appearance in the last four years on the Best High Schools Ranking, and the first time to earn the highest ranking in the Miami Valley.
