Dear Supporter of the Yellow Springs Schools,
I
am honored that the Board of Education has asked me to serve the district
in this important transition year. I have enjoyed renewing old
acquaintances and meeting many new people as well. Two year’s perspective
outside the district has given me an appreciation for just how special the
Yellow Springs Schools are and can be. The opportunity students have to
gain knowledge and acquire social skills in a supportive environment is
truly a gift of this community to its children. There is always need for
improvement, but by any measure the Yellow Springs Schools are very good
schools.
During the 2009-2010 school year we are dedicated to improve our
performance in achievement tests in those areas where we have not met
standards, continue the Math Initiative which was designed to apply best
practice to improve students’ comfort and skill in mathematics, and
continue the emphasis on literacy as a critical life skill. In addition,
the Board will be engaged in strategic financial planning and hiring a new
superintendent for the 2010-2011 school year.
One way to stay informed is to regularly check the district web
sites. Much of the information is posted almost as soon as it
happens and I pledge to use the web site as a
means to share with you district information and concerns.
We have wonderful kids and many dedicated teachers and support personnel
committed to making 2009-2010 one of the best school years ever. Please
feel free to contact our school principals at Mills Lawn or YSHS and
McKinney or me at the Board Office if you have a question or concern.
Respectfully,
Tony Armocida
Interim Superintendent,
