More than 400 people turned out for Mills Lawn's 50th Anniversary Celebration Program recognizing our 50 years of service to the Yellow Springs community. An Open House of our new facility preceded the program.

U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine (shown at the left presenting a flag to the school which flew over the Capitol to honor Mills Lawn), Dayton artist Bing Davis, Ohio Rep. Chris Widener, Ohio Sen. Steve Austria, New York-based author and musician Jaime Adoff, and Yellow Springs Mayor David Foubert were the featured speakers. Other speakers included Mary Jo White (Mills Lawn Teacher Emeritus), Anita Brown (Mills Lawn PTO), Tony Armocida (Superintendent), a Student Council Representative, Christine Hatton (Mills Lawn Principal), Jody Pettiford (Mills Lawn staff), and Tom Haugsby (Board of Education).

Sen. DeWine and Mr. Adoff are former students of Mills Lawn School. Mr. Adoff is the son of local authors Arnold Adoff and the late Virginia Hamilton.

Bing Davis is an internationally-known Dayton artist. He has served as an artist in residence at Mills Lawn, most recently in March during Looking In, Looking Out our year-long exploration of diversity through the arts sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts.

This program also included the formal dedication of our new building addition and the singing of the Mills Lawn 50th Anniversary Song written especially for this event by Hal Walker.
