Indonesia Videoconference
Mills Lawn sixth graders connect with students in Jakarta
March 2006

Former Mills Lawn counselor, Amy Huneck, speaks to Mills Lawn students live from Jakarta, Indonesia.

Mills Lawn sixth graders made use of the latest  technology to share in a live videoconference with ninth grade students at the Jakarta International School in Indonesia. Former Mills Lawn counselor, Amy Huneck, is now a counselor at the school in Indonesia's capital. Students at the international school come from 60 different countries from all over the world.

While on leave in Ohio in December 2005, Ms. Huneck stopped at Mills Lawn to say hello. After visiting with many old friends, she stopped to see sixth grade teachers, Pam Dapore and Jody Pettiford because she knew that sixth graders would be doing the International Project in the winter, which includes studies of countries around the world.

With the help from Mills Lawn Technology Specialist, Dionne Barclay and IT specialist, Jacob Steberl, the idea of a videoconference was born. Since the sixth graders at Mills Lawn were currently working on the International Project, which is one of their major activities of the year, a video conference with Ms. Huneck and some of her students in Indonesia was a perfect match.

The live videoconference was a great opportunity for our students to ask questions and learn first-hand about life in Indonesia, as well as life in the ninth graders' home countries.
