The Great African American History Search

A web search for sixth graders

Throughout the history of the United States African Americans have made significant contributions to the progress of our country in a wide variety of fields . As you complete The Great African American History Search, you will  gain an appreciation for these contributions as you learn about some of the great figures in our history.

Here's what you need to do:

  • Print out a blank copy of the Search or work with two open screens (see below).
  • Use Encarta online encyclopedia to find the answers. Read the articles, look at photos, watch videos, hear some of the people featured speak in their own words, and listen to some music.
  • Record your answers on paper (or you can keep two screens up while you are working).
  • Then submit your answers to the Search online.
  • Print out your results and hand them in. You do not need to hand in your paper answer sheet. Your teacher will tell you the due date.

You may do the Search as many times as you wish, but only your first try counts in the Top 20 Results.
