Altered Books
ILE Fine Arts Project

The Interest Learning Education Fine Arts Pull-out for students in grades 3-6, led by Becky O’Brien and Libby Rudolf with assistance by Dionne Greenberg and Jackie Mulhall, created an “altered” book in a group project.  Each student created a drawing or collage of a person and an animal that were incorporated into the book. Students then cut the pages into thirds so that the heads/body/legs could be interchanged.  The book was entered into the Winter Solstice Show at the Shirley-Jones Gallery in Yellow Springs.

In the show, the altered books were offered for sale at $40.00 each. The books were shown the week of December 16-21, 2006 along with other artwork. On December 21 there was a “Closing” Reception where the Mills Lawn book was purchased.  Proceeds from this sale went to the Yellow Springs Library for the purchase of new materials.
