Autographed by Martin Luther King Jr.
Book discovered in Mills Lawn collection

Our media specialist discovered a very special book in the Mills Lawn Library. On the shelves, among the many books in our collection was Martin Luther King: The Peaceful Warrior, by Ed Clayton, copyright 1964. The book was autographed by Dr. King.

No one at our school knew how this book with Dr. King's autograph came into our possession, that is until we heard from Kay Curley, retired Mills Lawn librarian:

"I am so glad you found the book autographed by Dr. King.  It was donated to the Mills Lawn Library by Edla Dixon who was the school librarian before I was.

"As some people will know, Coretta Scott King, was a student at Antioch and lived with the Treichlers while at school.  Edla's husband was president of Antioch when Dr. King visited Yellow Springs.

"Through Jessie Treichler,  Edla was able to obtain an autographed copy of this book. It was kept at the circulation desk and enjoyed by many in the library.  We hesitated to circulate it since it is such a valuable book, however, about four years before I retired, it disappeared. The shelves were searched and searched but to no avail. I think it is wonderful that it's been found! "
