The training program included a number of activities to get students  thinking, including this "gift bag" simulation, which demonstrated how you can't judge what's on the inside simply by looking at the outside.

Building Community
A Training Program for Students, Staff, and Parents
January 2007

The Mills Lawn School PTO  partnered with the National Conference for Community & Justice to provide a series of training programs for students, staff, and parents in January 2007. The training programs focused on recognizing and appreciating our differences as well as our similarities and were offered to help create an environment of respect, free from bullying and cliques.

The National Conference for Community and Justice, founded in 1927 as the Conference of Christians and Jews, is a human relations organization dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism in America.  NCCJ promotes understanding and respect among all races, religions and cultures through advocacy, conflict resolution and education.

The Mills Lawn PTO recognizes that teachers and staff have already done so much to help eradicate bullying and cliques at school and continue to do amazing work in this area.  The PTO sought to be a part of this effort, as well, and dedicated its funds this year to contribute to this initiative.
