Collins School
Third graders step back in time
One-room schoolhouse from the 1800s

Collins School, a former one-room schoolhouse, lets our third graders experience life in the late 1800s as they attend classes for a day at the Xenia Township (Ohio) historic landmark.

The schoolhouse was built in 1886 and stopped operation in 1944. It was refurbished and brought back for use in 1986 by the late Helen Bryson Brantley and her husband, Virgil. Helen Brantley had attended Collins school as a child. Children on the field trip dress in period clothes, have lessons, eat lunch and do crafts. The building is used during the spring and fall months for this active educational experience.

The photos below are from one of our third graders' most recent visits to Collins School.
