Egyptian Art Masks



 

Sixth graders created plaster art masks modeled on the funerary masks of the ancient Egyptians. This art class project, led by teacher Amy Minehart, is part of a multi-disciplinary study of Ancient Egypt.

Petroleum jelly is first applied to the face to make the plaster mask easy to remove.

     
Plaster gauze is dipped in water and gently applied to the face and allowed to dry.

         

       
After the plaster dries the mask is carefully removed leaving an image of the student's face.
