Interest Learning Education (ILE) is unique program at Mills Lawn designed to offer academic enrichment to all students as well as address the needs of students identified as gifted. Wendy Shelton, our ILE/gifted intervention specialist, serves students by offering pull-out enrichment groups, by co-teaching with and extending lessons for classroom teachers, and by working with teachers to differentiate lessons for advanced learners.

In addition, to these responsibilities, Mrs. Shelton also oversees extracurricular academic or artistic activities, such as the scarecrow festival held on October 9. Students can choose to work with Mrs. Shelton on these projects during their recess time or after school.

Mrs. Shelton is new to Mills Lawn this year, having recently earned her master’s degree in education from Antioch University McGregor. She is licensed as a middle school language arts/social studies teacher and as a gifted intervention specialist. She has taught performing arts enrichment in the Dayton area for the last eight years.
