Ohio Prehistory
Fourth graders study prehistoric people, then create artifacts

After constructing timelines to show significant events in Ohio’s prehistory, fourth graders discovered that the earliest settlements of people in our state consisted of various prehistoric peoples, ending with the Eastern Woodland Mound Builders. They learned about the cultural and economic practices of Ohio’s prehistoric peoples dating from13,000 BCE (Before Common Era) to 1650 CE (Common Era), when European explorers arrived in
Ohio

If these people were prehistoric, then how do we know about them?  After reading about the archeology that tells this story, the students created summary writings, sketches of artifacts, and models of these artifacts.
