Screech owl

Betty Ross reads Owl Babies

Barn owl

Kindergartners loved sneaking a peak at the first and second grade chicks. But this week Betty Ross, the director of the Glen Helen Raptor Center, brought owls to the kindergarten room. The children learned about nocturnal animals as a part of their Night Unit.

Ms. Ross told the children that the owls in their favorite book, Owl Babies, are screech owls. She opened a cage and brought out a screech owl named Cayenne, for her reddish color, as well as a barn owl, Ty, who enjoyed showing his snowy white wing span.
