Lawn students were involved in a school-wide author study of the books of
noted children’s author Patricia Polacco. An all-school assembly on
January 25 kicked of the month-long study with Aurelia Blake, McKinney
Middle School English teacher, reading Enzo’s
Splendid Garden. Kindergarten teacher Becky Brunsman also wrote a song
for the whole school to sing highlighting key
aspects of Ms. Polacco’s life.
Each grade
level had a focus book and specialists chose books to share with the whole
school. Some specialists also helped with special grade level projects.
Each classroom decorated either their door or hallway to represent their
book. Each day the WMLS News also highlighted a "Patricia Polacco Interesting
Fact" for the day.
The week of
February 16 was "We Love Patricia Polacco Week."
Students and teachers met in mixed grade level groups to share what
they learned during our author study.
