Sculpture

Students in the ILE Fine Arts group visited the studio of Yellow Springs sculptor Jon Barlow Hudson. On the way students stopped to see his sculpture, “Tree of Knowledge” (above),  outside the Yellow Springs Public Library.

At the studio (below), students found Mr. Hudson in the process of sanding the piece of granite he is working on for Cedarville University. The granite piece is 29 ft. high and weighs 5400 lbs. It will be installed on the campus in June 2008. The granite came by truck from Minnesota, where Mr. Hudson had chosen the piece from the rock face in a quarry. It was then trucked here to Yellow Springs. It requires a crane to move it or turn it. He is now in the process of sanding the surface and will also be adhering polished steel to the central opening.
