100th Day of School
First graders observed
the occasion in early February with some special African American History Search Sixth graders learned about the contributions of famous African Americans with an online web search. African Art Masks Fifth graders studied about African cultures and created beautiful art masks. Art in the Glen Third and fourth graders visited Glen Helen to learn about and draw wildflowers and rock formations. Belize Service Project Third graders collected donations for orphans in Belize. Bike Hike Third and fourth graders had fun and learned about bicycle safety. Book Reviews Students wrote book reviews for the Mills Lawn web site. Boonshoft Museum Second graders participated in an interactive, hands-on field trip. Cells! Sixth graders studied cell biology. Cincinnati Zoo First graders learned about arthropods and more. Color Exploration Fifth graders explored color in art class and produced some striking artworks. Columbus Zoo Third graders explored the diverse world of animals. COSI Field Trip The sixth grade traveled to Columbus for some great hands-on science experiences. Cox Arboretum Our kindergartners paid a visit to the Cox Arboretum. CSI: Mills Lawn Sixth graders participated in an exciting chemistry and forensic science residency. Dole Plant Tour Sixth graders visited the Dole packaging plant in Springfield to learn about mass production, automation, and invention. Duck for President The feathered presidential candidate was a big hit at Mills Lawn on Election Day, November 2. We even heard from the popular book's illustrator! Evening in Egypt The 6th grade showed what it learned about Ancient Egypt, along with a special music and dance performance of King Tut. Fifth Grade Web Pages The fifth grade debuted its new web pages. First Day of Kindergarten Our kindergartners came for their first first day of school. Force and Motion Second graders learned about these scientific principles during a unique PE/ILE activity. Fossil Hunt! Fourth graders hunted for 450 million year-old fossils. Freedom Quest Ohio A PBS video distance learning event about the Underground Railroad originated from Mills Lawn. Funkadairy Cheese Mills Lawn's 2004 Udder Chaos entry Glen Helen Overnight Fourth graders had an overnight learning experience at our local nature preserve. Glen Helen Science Residency Fifth graders participated in an overnight science residency. Halloween Parade Younger students and their older buddies enjoyed our annual Halloween event. International Night Sixth graders presented reports, displays, and projects about more than 60 countries around the world. Invention Convention The sixth grade's annual adventure in creative problem solving. Jackie Robinson Mad River Theater Works came to present the inspiring story of the first African American Major League baseball player. Jump Rope for Heart Mills Lawn students had fun and raised money for the American Heart Association. Kantha Quilt Students learned traditional Bangladesh quilting. KidFood Drive The Student Council helped the Yellow Springs Food Pantry by spearheading a food drive at our school. Kindergarten School Pictures Our kindergartners posed for their first ever school photos. Lunch Buddies Older and younger paired up for some lunchtime fun. Magic Show Our third graders had some tricks up their sleeves. Mastodon Dig Our third graders participated in an exciting science residency featuring a 10,000 year-old mastodon. Medieval Festival Sixth graders held their annual tribute to those "days of old" and invited some special guests. Music Recitals General music students had the opportunity to showcase their special talents. Narrows Reserve Third graders studied rocks and fossils at an area nature preserve. Native American Totems Fifth graders wrote folk tales, created totems, and performed skits about Native American cultures. Native Plants Garden First and second graders planted a garden of native Ohio plants. Northern Lights The Aurora Borealis paid a visit to the Yellow Springs area in November. Ohio Time Line Live! Fourth graders presented a living history of Ohio. Open House Mills Lawn kicked off a brand new school year. Peifer Orchard The kindergarten visited an apple orchard in the fall. Picture Book Read-in Third graders enjoyed the best books of the year. Pieces of the Puzzle Students participated in an activity celebrating our diversity and unity. Playground Equipment The Mills Lawn PTO bought and installed some new playground equipment for the older students. Pie, oh my! A Student Council fundraiser featured whipped cream and fun. Reality Day Fifth and sixth graders learned about the world of work and money. Reindeer Run Kindergartners jingled all the way with this fun P.E. event in December. Schoolhouse Rock Live! Mills Lawn put on a spectacular show in February featuring 280 first through sixth graders. Senior Tea Mills Lawn threw a party for our senior citizens. Sixth Grade Farewell Mills Lawn said good-bye to its sixth graders at an evening celebration. Snow-Me Second and third graders created snowy sculptures of themselves. Spaghetti Dinner Our PTO offered some great food at its annual election night fundraiser. Spelling Bee Mills Lawn held its annual spelling bee and sent a champion to the county bee. Student Council Mills Lawn elected its Student Council Leadership Team. Starbase Fifth graders traveled WPAFB to learn about the principles of flight, the laws of motion, teamwork, and cooperation. SunWatch Indian Village Fifth graders took a field trip to a replica of an ancient Indian village. Texture Rubbings First graders explored texture in art class. Toys for Tots Mills Lawn collected toys for the Marine Corps Reserve's annual effort to help needy children. Village Artisans Gallery Exhibit Mills Lawn student artwork was featured at a local gallery exhibit in May. Web Site 4th Anniversary The Mills Lawn web site celebrated four years online with some new e-cards. Windmill Farm Kindergarteners checked out the pumpkin harvest in October. WMLS Our daily live TV newscast, now on Channel 13 each weekday morning. World War II Web Search Students learned about the great figures of World War II. Yo-yos in Science Sixth graders learned science concepts through toys. |
